Anxiety that does not match the outside picture.

Many of the people I work with present as composed, capable and entirely in control — while privately managing a near-constant undercurrent of worry, rumination or physical tension that rarely fully switches off.

Anxiety left unaddressed tends to generalise. What begins as worry about one specific area of life gradually expands, and avoidance — even subtle avoidance — quietly narrows what feels possible.

Evidence-based psychological treatment for anxiety is genuinely effective, with strong outcome data across CBT and related approaches. This is not about learning to tolerate anxiety indefinitely. It is about changing what is maintaining it.

01
Persistent Worry
Rumination that continues even when there is no immediate problem to solve — the mind running scenarios it cannot resolve.
02
Physical Tension
Chronic muscular tension, a racing heart, or a low-grade sense of physical alarm that has become the background state of daily life.
03
Panic Symptoms
Acute episodes of intense fear with physical symptoms — racing heart, breathlessness, a sense of losing control — that can feel medically alarming.
04
Social Anxiety
Heightened self-consciousness or fear of judgement in social or professional situations, often masked by careful preparation and overcompensation.
05
Perfectionism
An exacting internal standard that drives anxiety around performance and mistakes, even when external results are consistently strong.
06
Sleep Disruption
Difficulty switching off at night, a racing mind at bedtime, and the cascading effects of poor sleep on next-day anxiety and concentration.

Evidence-based treatment that addresses the cause, not just the symptom.

My approach is grounded in CBT — the most extensively evidenced treatment for anxiety — alongside schema therapy where longstanding patterns are involved, informed by my neuroscience background.

This is not about teaching you to manage anxiety symptoms indefinitely. It is about identifying and changing the specific thinking patterns, beliefs and behaviours that are maintaining the anxiety, so the change actually holds.

I work with professionals who function well externally and find the gap between presentation and internal experience particularly difficult to acknowledge, let alone address.

1
Assessment & Formulation
A precise understanding of what is maintaining your anxiety specifically — the triggers, beliefs and patterns — rather than a generic anxiety protocol.
2
Cognitive Work
Identifying and restructuring the thinking patterns that drive worry and catastrophising, using evidence-based CBT techniques.
3
Behavioural Change
Addressing avoidance, however subtle, which maintains anxiety even when it feels protective in the moment.
4
Underlying Patterns
Where appropriate, schema-informed work on the deeper beliefs — often around control, safety or performance — that generate the anxiety in the first place.
"Anxiety is rarely irrational when you understand what it is protecting. The work is not to dismiss it, but to understand it precisely enough to change it."

What psychology offers that self-management techniques do not.

Breathing exercises and apps can help in the moment. They do not address the underlying beliefs and patterns generating the anxiety, which is why symptoms often return once the technique is set aside.

Psychological therapy works at the level of those patterns directly — identifying what specifically is maintaining your anxiety and changing it, rather than managing the experience indefinitely.

Consultant-level expertise in anxiety treatment.

I am a Consultant Clinical Psychologist with doctorates in cognitive neuroscience (Imperial College London) and clinical psychology (UCL), and over 20 years of clinical experience treating anxiety across NHS and private settings.

I work with professionals who need their psychologist to understand the particular pressure of high-stakes roles, and I bring that context directly into the work rather than treating anxiety in the abstract.

What people ask before getting in touch.

Is this CBT or something broader?
CBT forms the evidence base for the work, but I integrate schema therapy and other approaches where longstanding patterns are driving the anxiety, rather than applying a single fixed protocol.
I've had CBT before and it didn't fully work — can this be different?
Often what is missing is depth — addressing the underlying schema rather than only the surface thinking pattern. We would explore what was missing previously at the consultation.
How many sessions will I need?
This depends on what is driving the anxiety. Some presentations respond well to focused, time-limited work; others need longer engagement with underlying patterns. We assess and review this together.
Do you offer online sessions?
Yes, in person in London and online across the UK, with identical structure and depth.
What does the first session involve?
A 90-minute initial consultation to understand your history and current difficulties, after which I share an initial formulation and recommended approach.
